10-Run Rule (updated for 2006):
  • The 10-run rule is no longer mandatory, as of the 2002 season. However, after 4-1/2 innings, the trailing team's coach may choose to end the contest. (explanation courtesy of the Vermont Metro Baseball home page)

    1979-81 Playoff Format:
  • During the 1979, 1980 and 1981 (and possibly earlier) seasons, the playoff format was much different than it is today: during the playoffs, there were two "groups" within each division, and each team was placed in one of these groups. These "group" playoffs were referred to as "regional" playoffs. Some teams needed to win an extra game to qualify for the playoffs, and those games were called playdowns (or what's called a play-in nowadays). The first round of playoffs was the quarterfinal round, followed by the semifinal round. The winners of the semifinal games in the regional playoffs moved on to divisional semifinal games, then on to the state championship for that division. If anyone can give me different or more accurate information, please go right ahead. Here's a short list of comparisons between names of playoff games in each round from 1979 to 1981 and currently:

    1979-81 ROUND CURRENT
    Regional Playdown Qualification Divisional Play-in
    Regional Quarterfinal I Divisional Playdown
    Regional Semifinal II Divisional Quarterfinal
    Divisional Semifinal III Divisional Semifinal
